A note on kosher birds: While the Torah names 24 unacceptable birds, with the rest being kosher, the oral tradition regarding some birds has been lost and we do not know what species some names in the Torah connote. Therefore, people err on the side of caution and only consume birds we have a continuous tradition of being kosher.
